Celebrity astrology: Janis Joplin

As we are fast approaching the Full Moon in Cancer, I thought I would take some time to analyse the chart of the late, great Janis Joplin- someone I enjoy not just for her music and her style, but for the pure soul she exudes even in death. For she was born with her Sun in Capricorn and her Moon in Cancer- not quite at the Full Moon itself, but with the moon applying to oppose the Sun. With the Moon as it is in domicile in Cancer, the Full Moon personality is still very apparent in her- the erratic artists’ nature, the psychic sensitivity, the great emotionality.

Let’s have a look at this chart…

Right off the bat the huge amount of 12th house energy here is very clear. To some of my readers, this might not look like a *particularly* crowded 12th house, but those of you who follow my work know that I view the South Node in particular as a very dense form of energy, almost like a black hole.

Those planets which fall into our 12th house, if any, were put there by ourselves in childhood when we did not know what else to do with them, so to speak. If the individuality is not encouraged or is outright crushed and repressed, it gets squashed into that place. With Mercury, the child was not heard and her intelligence was not encouraged. With Venus, that which she finds of value is likewise not valued and she might be regarded as an ugly duckling- I do know that in her younger years, before she was famous, people were said to tease her for being an unattractive “pig”. She came from a very upright and religious background, which did not necessarily encourage anyone who was born different, born a rebel (Aquarius Rising).

What I also note is that these planets are all in Saturn-ruled signs, with the rising sign and the Sun sign likewise ruled by Saturn. The Moon, in stark contrast, is in a house ruled by the Sun and in its own sign. The father figure is repressive and at odds with the mother, who is nurturing but perhaps dogmatic and irresponsible. There is a terrible absence in regards to both parents- the Moon’s square to Neptune is an acute sense of inner loneliness that can only be assuaged by reckless fantasy. The twelfth house trine to Neptune, although out of sign, is a close orb and indicates a sense of self that can easily be dissolved by nefarious friends and love interests (Neptune is in the seventh house). Mercury trines Neptune as well- a wonderful placement for an artist, but not a great one for a steady and realistic thinker. The ruling planet (Saturn) trines Neptune as well- here is the chart of someone easily led, strangely enough- despite all the independent rebelliousness shown elsewhere in the chart! It is also the chart of someone who will definitely take solace in drugs and in dysfunctional relationships.

Leaving Neptune to one side for a minute, let’s look at Uranus conjunct Saturn in the third house, both of which trine that Capricorn Sun (out of sign, but still a trine). Uranus trine Sun is an aspect that denotes the eccentric, sometimes the genius- especially with Uranus at 0 degrees as it is. Saturn throws a damper on that combination, and its being in the third house with Uranus in the context of that Mercury trine Neptune and opposite Pluto makes me think of someone ADHD- maybe autistic- with a brilliant unique mind that could not and would not be accepted in 1940s-1950s Texas. It would not be accepted by her siblings either. Home, family and roots being what they are to the Moon in Cancer, even if Janis found fame and fortune and excitement elsewhere- would it ever be possible to paper over the pain of not being accepted and understood at home, in her own backyard?

Jupiter is retrograde and in exaltation in the fifth house. It is unaspected, unless you count a very wide opposition to the Sun. Unaspected planets tend to go a bit wild, and Jupiter in retrograde is unstable and forceful. The Leo-ruled fifth house here is also important in the context of her Leo north node. This is someone with an immense and soulful creativity, who channels excess emotional exuberance into works of art that push new boundaries. All that highly repressed twelfth house energy and that retrograde Mercury would come charging out here, on stage, in front of people- I could imagine she would go from stony silence to glorious diva in two seconds, with no warning in between. Jupiter RX can often be behind sudden leaps towards fame- this could be a key to her sudden stardom.

This brings us to all those oppositions to Pluto, which no doubt have drawn the attention of my readers. This is the placement of a hard worker (very Capricornian), someone who obsessively strives for perfection, to be good enough. All that energy that would otherwise be cowering away with her south node in the twelwth house is dragged out, kicking and screaming, to prove itself to the world and fulful the nodal mission. This is not someone who would miss practice with the band but would be on everyone’s case making sure they practice, so that the puny little minds of the audience could be blown and the childhood pain assuaged by a great big hit of glory and cocaine.

Chiron is in Leo, in the seventh house- very close to the descendant and to the North Node. The theme of life is pain and low self-worth, but when it is explored it is pain and low self worth that brings a lot of joy and a lot of healing to others. There was no luck in love for Janis, but she brought an incredible amount of joy to millions and millions of people- and will do so for millions more. Despite a sad death choked on blood, stomach contents and heroin in a hotel room at the age of 27- this was a life’s mission magnificently and beautifully fulfilled. Could it have been a karmic balancing of scales for her entire conservative family, locked away as they were in their little Texas town with no chance at fame or adventure outside their closeted religion? Could a star in the bloodline redress the karmic heaviness of hundreds of years of repression? Some say people with charts like this are advanced souls from other worlds that walk into overly solid Earth families to stir them up as an act of love, to liberate future generations of that blood- and I would not think that was far wrong in this case.

FULL MOON IN CANCER:

As we are coming up to the Full Moon in Cancer, I thought I would share the post I wrote about this earlier on my Facebook page. Enjoy, and feel free to comment any questions you might have about this transit!

Please remember to look after yourself during full moons… listen to your body and drink plenty of water. Full Moons are a time of release and rebirth, like a kind of energetic labouring process. Even if you do not take it that seriously, remember the effect the Full Moon has on the tides and consider that you yourself are seventy percent water 🙂

Here is the chart for the Full Moon itself.

The eighth house in synastry

The eighth house is a very powerful point of contact when it comes to synastry and composite charts. Ruled as it is by Scorpio, many will see this overlay and think to themselves immediately “woohoo, sex! Deep passion! Soul bonds!”

But of course, there is much more to the eighth house than this when it comes to relationship astrology- for good or for ill!

Astrology is comprised of many different layers of symbolism, and first of all I would like to direct the reader’s attention to the number eight. Of course, in numerology this is often seen as the number of abundance and growth. It is also the number of karma, of binding, of cycles. What goes in must come out- which is also the secret to wealth. No true abundance ever comes of nothing, it is always comprised of a blending of energies- an alchemy that breaks things down in order to form anew. This ties into the whole Scorpio process of burning things down to break out of the ashes, the Kundalini process of transmuting crass old energies into making something new. Here, you pour two things into the pot and mix them around- and what comes out depends on what you put in in the first place!

This is a water house, and very much a two-way flow because of that. There is nothing clear cut in regards to the question “who feels it more”. The answer to this is in the individual natal charts, to see who will be more sensitive to this kind of energy.

With eighth house overlays, there is often a desire for a sharing of energy, an energy bond. There is a sense of being able to create a mutually advantageous partnership that goes into deeper and darker territory than the Libran seventh house of the intellectual exchange. As this is the house of secrets as well, there is often a lot of hidden information here into the bargain. Let me give a bit of an example:

Person A meets person B, and gains the sense that here is someone who is somewhat lonely and in need of someone to connect to. They have a sense that if they initiate and nurture a connexion between the both of them, they can mould Person B into someone who will be pleased to share that emotional bond with them. Person A initiates a friendship, and the both turn into confidantes of one another, sharing secrets and hidden pains and desires between them. There can be some instances of jealousy when one of the two gives attention to other friends, as the depth of the bond dredges up hidden insecurities- especially as both now have sensitive information about each other.

Person A’s Moon is in Person B’s eighth house.

Now whether this is a good thing or a bad thing for a stable relationship or friendship depends on the people involved, of course- their motives, and the rest of the synastry and the individual natal charts.

Person A can of course enter into this scenario with an energy-vampire consciousness, with a feeling (conscious or otherwise) like they wish or need to make Person B dependent on them in order that they can feel powerful. Person B can likewise be in a state of low boundaries and happy to let themselves be co-opted in order to feel appreciated. In this scenario, we have imbalance and a lack of truth which will not survive the rigmarole of the eighth house alchemy. Sooner or later, there will be a lab explosion!

If Person A and Person B are compatible in the rest of the chart and are willing and ready to pursue a spiritual journey within themselves in concordance with the eighth house energy that is happening between them, this can be a powerful and transcendant bond. This allows them to work strongly together as a team that is greater than the two individuals within it. When a true and honest give and take of energy that both are in agreement with is able to take place, this can be beautiful energy, where both draw strength and renewal from each other. But when the motives are less than stellar and more about lack- and one or both are stubborn about that lack mentality- then this bond can be painful and difficult and more in the territory of ouch-inducing karmic lesson.

Nothing in synastry is in itself a bad thing, in my opinion- it is the expectations that can make things painful for us. If you have an eighth house bond overlay or a Pluto contact with someone important, leave your expectations at the door. It will either make you stronger together as a pair, or stronger as separate individuals, or both- but what happens is up to what you two bring into the cauldron, which can often have nothing to do with what you might actually want!

Jupiter in synastry: Jovial Jove or the God of Gas?

Jupiter is something many don’t pay much attention to in synastry, but it is indeed significant- especially if either party has significant Jupiter elements in their natal charts, including the South Node. Remember, the South Node is like a black hole of energy in the natal chart- do not overlook it! Jupiter will not make or break a relationship, but it will provide an enormous amount of impetus for people to learn from one another and it can definitely paper over many cracks or chasms that are apparent in the rest of the synastry- or it can cause a bit of chaos, when there are harsh Jupiter aspects involved.

Remember: Jupiter amplifies everything it touches, in the same way that Neptune dissolves everything it touches. There’s an interesting question: what could happen if Jupiter and Neptune were conjunct in a synastry chart? A great dissolution of the Jupiter person’s personal values- they could potentially be inspired to do something quite wrong- which would in turn lead to the Jupiter person’s becoming wiser and more *spiritually* inclined in their wisdom. Neptune might be tempted to find joy and abundance in their escapist tendencies. What is almost guaranteed here is a loss, after which something much greater is found.

But let’s come back to Jupiter in synastry in general. In short, the positive side of Jupiter is wealth, growth, philosophy, travel, intellectual and spiritual expansion- and good times. Jupiter blesses what it touches with ease and joy. Those who have positive Jupiter inter-aspects in their synastry or significant Jupiter overlays might feel like they can just get along with one another effortlessly, and that the other person makes them full of bliss. When there are harsh aspects between Jupiters or between Jupiter and a personal planet, the Jupiter person’s ideals might be painfully at odds with what the personal planet represents- but there is a lot of stimulation and growth directed to that area as well. Not to be crude, but this can be good news for Mars- as long as Mars stays in the bedroom and doesn’t devolve into arguments and egotism outside of it.

This brings me to the dark side of Jupiter. This is arrogance, large spending, thoughtlessness and cloud-cuckoo idealism at the cost of realism. Jupiter can be selfish and narcissistic when at its worst, and can attract you into a pile of quicksand.

So which are you going to get in your relationship? Look to the qualities of each person’s Jupiter, and also to to Jupiter aspects in the larger context of the synastry itself. Is Jupiter covering over a pile of landmines with a bunch of flowers? Or is it adding wealth, wisdom and growth to your experience without the added hassle of a difficult lesson? Therein lies the million dollar question 🙂

Princess Margaret Birth Chart: Grandeur, Instability, Magnificence.

I’ve always liked Princess Margaret, long dead as she is- and horrible as she definitely could be. I like the fact that she was a beautiful and also highly *difficult* woman. If you have the good fortune to be graced with beauty, you definitely shouldn’t be a doormat. Hers was a role that was merely decorative- the “spare” to the heir, as she once so wrly put it. I am very glad she obviously wasn’t content with that alone, and had the ability to be assertive in what must have been at times a dull and dreary existence.

Most of my readers surely know that she was the younger sister of Queen Elizabeth II. She was always seen, by the press, as the more beautiful and more daring sister of the two. This was charming and exciting when the Queen was still a princess, but gained a bunch of frosty frowns from a conservative society once she became Queen. However, although Margaret turned her back on a romantic entanglement that would have lost her her HRH status, she kept making waves.

Margaret was especially famous in the sixties for her scandalous love affairs, her hobnobbing with the likes of Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithfull, her lavish parties on the hideaway island of Mustique. I suppose it would be hard for the world’s press to look away from a beautiful princess who is up to so many devilish shenanigans. However, the hard partying began to take its toll, and soon things began to look a bit sad and faded. She had married a bisexual photographer, they made fools out of one another and eventually got divorced. As the years wore on, she became more and more reclusive until she died in the early 2000s. She never shut herself away entirely, however- she always took a strong interest in the arts, especially ballet.

What interested me about her chart was the fact that she has her Big Three (Sun, Moon and Rising) in their signs of domicile- Sun in Leo, Moon in Cancer, Ascendant in Aries. Once I saw this, I had to take a closer look. No wonder she made such a splash in life!

Princess Margaret Birth Chart

There are two things that draw my attention here right from the beginning. The first of these is Moon-Pluto in Cancer in the fifth house. The Moon sextiles Mercury, but otherwise makes no other aspects.

Moon-Pluto is an indicator of extremely intense emotions, and the Moon in Cancer is of course in domicile. Here is someone who feels deeply- painfully deeply. They also have a double shell around themselves- not only the shell of the crab, but the shell of the scorpion as well! This person could wound, sting, bite and hurt when cornered, or when she felt cornered. No two ways about that, and I believe she would have had intense insights into people’s characters. With the Moon-Pluto conjunction sextile a penetrating and insightful Mercury in Virgo in the 6th house, this is someone with a deep and perhaps hyper-rational perspective into people’s truths. I think she could judge quite intensely with this combination, especially with the Moon-Pluto being in a fixed house. However, did she know that her judgements of others were based on the judgements she made about herself?

Moon-Pluto in the 5th, especially for a Leo, would assuage itself emotionally through the acclaim of others- but also through the creative arts. Here is, as well, the desperate drive to be a mother- and she was, a very loving mother to her children. I think those children would have been very much HERS as well, not her husband’s, not anyone else’s! She would have made sure that they grew up empathetic and creative, much like herself.

The second thing I noticed is that her chart ruler is in the third house, trine a sixth house Neptune in Virgo, sextile a sixth house Leo Sun and square that Virgo Mercury. This is someone with a very great intelligence, that can sometimes be frittered away in bad habits- maybe drinking or overeating. Neptune is conjunct the Sun, and we know that her father’s death affected her greatly. Maybe she was never very easy in her mind, and that Mars square Mercury (ascerbic and aggressive remarks) was only the attempt to regain control over a sense of self gone completely out the window… Between her Sun conjunct Neptune and her Moon conjunct Pluto, she is emotionally volatile with an unhealthy ego infected with the projections and attitudes of anyone near her. She feels she has no purpose in life.

Saturn is in Capricorn in the tenth house trine Neptune, the Sun and opposite Jupiter in Cancer in the fourth house. Here is a firm indicator of tremendous ancestral wealth (Jupiter in Cancer in the 4th) and enormous public resposibility (Saturn in Capricorn in the tenth) crossing the person’s life, for good or for ill. Saturn is being supportive to her Sun, although her escapist Neptune dissolves its effects somewhat. This person becomes more of a tabloid illusion than a being of fact.

Venus is in the 7th in Libra (along with the South Node) opposite Uranus in the 1st. This person’s strong individualistic streak will absolutely drag her away from her comfort zone, which is the nice marriage and everyone around her pleased and happy. She is too much of a tyrant and a tearaway in her own energy to stay settled in ambiguity- which is what her soul needs in this lifetime, as indicated by her North Node.

Chiron is in the first house, in Taurus. I only use very close orbs for Chiron, so I’m not going to count anything as aspecting it. Tradition, the Hierophant, has a real grasp on this person’s drive for change and to express themselves creatively and intellectually. It is as Gore Vidal once said- “she is too intelligent for her station in life”. However, as Chiron is not merely the wound that never heals but the wound that heals others- she is able to use her spotlight to nurture and influence the world of the arts, the deep desire expressed by her Moon-Pluto, her Leo Sun conjunct Neptune and her Libra south node.

Looking at essential dignity, there are so many extremely strong planets here. Saturn, the Moon, the Sun, Mercury, the Ascendant and Venus are all in their sign of domicile. In her character, these are the forces that shine the most brightly. If we are going to ascribe essential dignity to Neptune, it would make sense for Neptune in Virgo to be in detriment, especially in the sixth house.

She has a T-square to her Jupiter in the fourth, and that Neptune afflicts her Sun and her Saturn- as I have already noted. This, to me, is highly telling. Not only do we have someone who is highly proud of her station in life despite being anchored down by it- we also have an inveterate cynic. Hugely and enormously sensitive as she would have been, perhaps cynicism is the only way to survive in such an environment, once the death of the father makes the doom of one’s future certain.

Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly: Synastry Charts.

I have to admit I didn’t know much about what was happening here until fairly recently… I am a big nerd, and my interest in celebrity culture begins and ends with my nostalgia years. However, my interest was piqued in discussion with others, who stated that these consider one another “twin flames”. I knew then that the study of Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly’s synastry would be highly interesting.

I am not a fan of the whole concept- mainly because of the toxicity I have seen associated with it. I do understand feeling like someone is the other half of your soul and feeling so intertwined and shattered by them that no adequate words for the experience exist. This, to me, is the material point.

Twin flames, soulmates etc are just human concepts trying to make sense of something that can only be grasped by a higher state of consciousness than the one currently experiencing such a connexion. If we stay wedded to these concepts, we stay in a mind space that is smaller than the one we need to grow towards. Also- please don’t get me started on the various psychics and astrologers who pander to the concept and sell more and more control to desperate individuals who have become like junkies trying to control the outcome with their beloved- because that is just intensely wrong.

It seems quite cringy to me, as well. Maybe it is just my detached Aquarius energy speaking, but I always get visions of someone who can’t cope with reality, crying into their unicorn onesie with a joint in hand, hatching up love spells to get them back together with the guy that ghosted them- when I think about “twin flames”. There’s definitely always large amounts of Neptune and Pluto energy in synastry between self-styled “twin flames”, which in its lower vibration presents as control issues and delusional thinking.

So what exactly is going down between these two people? Let us look first at the individual charts- starting first with Megan Fox.

Stone cold fox?

Fox is, as you can see, a fourth house Taurus Sun with her Moon in Leo, Capricorn rising and Mars on the ascendant.

That fourth house Taurus Sun is very feminine and well-grounded, loving the comforts of home and everything that is stable and normal. She has Jupiter in Pisces in the second house- which is in an intercepted sign, but nevertheless blesses that Taurus sun and Mercury in sextile. This is someone destined to wealth, something that many Taureans crave. However, I also note a T-square to this same Jupiter, as well as South Node and Pluto in the ninth house in Libra. This Venusian craving for comfort and stability may come at quite the price for Fox- the tendency to be overly reliant on partnership and hostile to other views on life and way to experience existence is there. This is someone who needs to be shocked out of her ruts from time to time.

Her Moon in the seventh house in Leo squares Pluto (with a wide orb), squares Mercury, trines Uranus and Saturn, and sextiles Chiron and Venus. This is someone who “loves love”, and has a tendency to both vacillate and demand subservience from others in her partnerships. Venus in Gemini in the fifth house is a blessing for her although it opposes Uranus, for it will absolutely give her that taste for challenging and unique experiences that break the fixed mould she can unfortunately be trapped in. Fox likes to consider herself a rational person- her Mercury is the closest planet to her Sun- and also a strong, courageous one as Mars is the only other planet aspecting her Sun. Both of these planets rule her North Node, so when Fox follows her ego desires as opposed to her conditioning and her patterns, she is likely to break into experiences that give her a lot of needed growth- despite her need for comfort.

Let us return to Mars in Capricorn on the ascendant, trine Mercury and the Sun. Sex is very important to this person, sex and status. When I look to the tenth house, it is ruled by Scorpio, and Pluto sits close to it in the 9th- conjunct that Libra south node. This person will have to watch out for her tendency to be controlling, to cage others and to domineer over them for her own gain and satisfaction. She needs to trust herself more in this incarnation, and be satisfied to be her own person.

Now to look at Machine Gun Kelly’s chart:

Here we have another Taurus Sun, in this case a highly Neptunian one. He has both Sun and Mercury in the twelth house, a Pisces Moon, Pisces Venus, Pisces Mars- and Neptune in the eighth house trine his Mercury in Taurus. Whereas Megan Fox is somewhat Neptunian, with her Jupiter in Pisces and Neptune in the 12th house- Kelly is infinitely more so.

An individual with this much Neptune faces a unique set of challenges, while possessing incredible gifts as well. Reality does not mean much to these people, which gives them the ability to move past barriers that many ordinary people would get stuck at.

I am seeing an *enormous* lust for money in this chart- Pisces represents the fish, the cash flow coming and going. Taurus can be notoriously keen on its gold as well, and Pluto trine Venus in the natal chart is often obsessed with gain. Jupiter conjunct Chiron in Cancer in the second house opposite Uranus, Saturn and Neptune in Capricorn the eighth might as well have drooling dollar signs drawn in glitter all over it- and that draws this person into a pit of pain.

Similarly to Fox, Kelly has Mars in close aspect to his Sun- his 12th house Sun in Taurus sextiles his Mars in Pisces in the 10th house. This draws me to his eighth house Saturn, which squares his 12th house Sun. There is indeed heavy karma here from past lives, which affects his ability to bond with others on a meaningful level. Something is definitely going to be unusual about his sexuality- I believe he is fairly open around his kink, but indeed he may have more interest in money and control than in sex itself.

His Pisces Moon is fairly level-headed for a Pisces Moon as it is in the eleventh house, with an exact sextile to Saturn and a sextile to Mercury in the 12th house. With his North Node in Aquarius in the 9th house, the key to his growth as a soul is the detached observation of thoughts, feelings and emotions as they arise in connexion to his intimate unions. He needs to discover where he begins and others end, to explore boundaries and his sense of self as a human being.

I think this is a person who can definitely lack honesty, which is a cause for concern. South Node in Leo in the third house has a tremendous need to be admired and respected, and it may not be particularly scrupulous about how it gains that admiration and respect, especially with Mercury in the 12th house. The truth may be an inconvenient obstacle for this person, but in order to acheive the soul’s growth, they have to look to that Chiron and Jupiter in the second and North Node in Aquarius in the 9th and establish themselves as very much their own person, with their own boundaries, wealth, and way of doing things. A tendency to gloss over fact and play games for applause will stand in the way of this.

Just by looking at their individual charts before looking at the synastry, I can already draw significance from both of their Jupiters being in the second house, and one’s North Node being in the ninth house while the other has North Node in the third. Definitely, they have a lot to teach one another around rationality and spirituality, truth and fiction- in regards to gaining an established sense of self, an idea of who they both are. Certainly, discussing the whole twin flame thing between themselves will be helpful for their awakening as individuals.

Now to look at the synastry:

Right off the bat, the fabulous thing for both of them is their Mercuries. They are conjunct, and MGK has his ascendant and South Node ruled by Mercury. Fox has her north node ruled by Mercury. Strong Mercury placements in synastry can help a lot of troublesome aspects along, while providing a perfect basis for both to learn more and more from one another. Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun- it forms a large basis around how we connect as human beings.

This, of course, is further developed by the Jupiter aspects in the synastry as well. Fox inserts her Jupiter into MGK’s Pluto-Venus trine, bringing wealth, joy and abundance into his life. This is a couple who genuinely enjoy one another’s presence, and find value in exploring philosophical concepts togerther- especially with her Jupiter sextiling their conjunct Mercuries. Again, this helps them both explore their nodal axis.

We have a very obvious past-life indicator in this chart, with Fox’s Moon conjunct MCK’s South Node. This is often seen in dynamics where the Moon was the South Node’s mother in a past life, and this Moon person will hold extremely tight to the South Node- trying to mother them one more time. But in this life, the South Node person does need to move on from what can sometimes be suffocating for their growth. This to me is extremely telling, especially as MCK has his Jupiter and Chiron in Cancer in the second house. The mother to him is all wealth and faith, but all that is pain connected to his Taurean ego identity as well. His eighth house Saturn squaring his Taurus Sun is something he obviously needs to come to terms with through this dynamic- perhaps accepting the input of an older woman with a strong eleventh house Saturn who pushes him to his Aquarius North Node… Her Saturn is unaspected in the synastry, however, which gives me pause as regards the longevity of this union.

MCK does enter into an internal dymamic for Fox that has always been painful for her, his Mercury squaring her Moon as well as hers and his Pluto squaring her Moon much closer than hers does. This is all very lunar, all connected to her and that South Node, and games of emotional hurt between the couple are liable to form a toxic and familiar bond that jepoardise their ability to move forward in a positive direction. Moons are a problem in this synastry altogether, as they are in inconjunct signs and not in aspect with one another- indeed, neither receive friendly aspects, except for the Pisces Moon sextile Megan’s Taurus Sun.

Their Venuses are not in friendly signs, although the overlays are positive and indicate a wish to build a strong foundation with one another- very important to Taurus. Fox’s carefree fifth house Gemini Venus is attractive to MCK’s Leo South Node, but threatens his sensitive Pisces Moon. Fox’s strong 11th house Uranus squares that very same Venus, indicating the possibility of a sudden end and beginning to the union, especially when given the probelmatic Moons and Venuses.

Pluto trine Mars is what one would call an absolutely fantastic sexual aspect. This has got to get both of these Tauruses very much raging for one another in that respect. Mars and Venus are both in sextile, as well. What is interesting is that the woman’s chart takes the lead in both of these aspects- Fox is Pluto in the Pluto-Mars trine, and Mars in the Mars-Venus sextile. She is very much the aggressor in this relationship.

As far as Neptune aspects go, I was truly expecting to see more- but a Sun-Neptune trine is still highly significant, as well as the Jupiter-Neptune opposition. MCK idealises Fox beyond all belief- even though he can be cold to her, with his Saturn in Capricorn in her ascendant and conjunct her Mars. With her Uranus square his Moon, he has visions of her as well. I believe I can confidently say that for her it’s more about the sex, for him it’s all about the mystical hoopla he can dream up in connexion to it. He is more the romantic, escapist type than she is. Although his Saturn trines her Sun, which is highly supportive, he can be restrictive towards her individual personality, when she makes him feel threatened.

Finally, his Sun in Taurus is conjunct her North Node in Aries. This is an amazing aspect that will help her move towards asserting her own unique ego identity more and more- he has a lot to teach her about this, with his own South Node in Leo! In order for her to do this, however, she needs to address what goes on with her own emotional problems- and unfortunately he tends to join in in exarcerbating them. I think, therefore, that this aspect is more about his inadvertently helping her to shine- than otherwise.

I believe that this is the chart of a powerful relationship that these two need for their spiritual growth in this lifetime, for their exploration of new ideas that challenge them to develop their individual sense of self and ideals. I don’t see them as particularly compatible deep down, and I am doubtful that it will be “happier ever after” for either of them- the Uranus square and the Sun-NN conjunction out of sign to me seem to point towards something else further down the track, new and better possiblities for them both. It will be extremely interesting to see this unfold as time goes on, and I myself will be watching closely. We all live and learn, and I for one am glad of the fact!

Studies in synastry: Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly

I have to admit I didn’t know much about what was happening here until fairly recently… I am a big nerd in my mid thirties, and my interest in celebrity culture begins and ends with my nostalgia years. However, my interest was piqued in discussion with others, who stated that these two consider one another “twin flames”.

Britney Spears’ Birth Chart: Fractured Mind, Holy Spirit.

In honour of Sag season, I feel drawn to examine the charts of one of my favourite Sagittarians- Britney Spears. This is also done at the recommendation of one of my great friends- a fellow astrologer, Lauren Breazeale (check her out at https://www.zephyrastrology.com/)! Britney Spears’ birth chart has proven to be one of my favourite analyses yet.

I hope I do not get slated as being superficial for loving a pop singer this much. I am merely a child of the eighties, who was aged 13 when Britney came out with her debut album. This stuff is nostalgia for me, happy nostalgia, reminding me of those first stolen vodka cruisers and the kind of dancing where you forget yourself and know you’re looking absolutely *beautiful* up there with dozens of other beautiful people- music so loud you can’t think, all you can do is *feel* how beautiful you are, and dance.

Does that sound rather Venusian? It should, when it comes to Britney. Let’s have a look at Britney Spears’ birth chart.

Britney Spears' birth chart.

As you can see, she is a first decan Libra Rising, with Saturn and Pluto in the ascendant. At first glance, that is indeed a strongly Venusian chart- but what takes it up a notch is the presence of Venus conjunct her South Node in the fourth house, exactly square to Pluto in the first house. The South Node is like a raging tumult of energy, something like a black hole. As it represents our comfort zone and our most well-developed talent, it is something we tend to rely upon dysfunctionally, at the expense of challenging ourselves.

The ruler of the ascendant on the South Node represents someone with an enormous talent, who nevertheless tends to stay stuck- trapped in that place, despite having a need and an urge to break free!

This is highly significant in the context of her life. Britney Spears, as many of my readers will know, is being held under a conservatorship due to concerns around her mental health. This conservatorship is largely operated by her father, and other male members of her family. It is said that this is being done for her own good, but there is a lot of discontent about this happening. The #freebritney movement is alive and well and happening, given so many others of my generation have the same fondness for Britney as I do. There is concern that she is being held against her will, in order to gain the benefit of her hard-earned cash.

The South Node in this chart is in the fourth house, in Capricorn. The ruler of her South Node is Saturn, and it is in the first house (ruled by Aries). I read this as a strong inbuilt need for security in the home, as represented by the male parental figure. Venus’s square to Pluto and to Saturn represents the tremendous internal and external battle between this individual and repressive forces that are dealt to her from outside- that she has also internalised. This does look to me like an instance in which the home and the family are a prison this person cannot escape from.

The ruler of her north node represents an area of her life where she can find liberation and a place for growth- we see this here in her Moon in the fifth house in Aquarius. Through being a mother to her own children, through being creative and expressive, she finds herself able to expand her mind and her soul despite the limits placed upon her, those limits that she has been programmed to accept.

Her Saturn/Uranus ruled moon brings us back to her ascendant which connects us to her Mars in the 12th house in Virgo. This forms a tight square to Neptune in the third house. This is the chart of a phenomally gifted dancer and singer, no two ways about it. Mars/Neptune blesses those who have it with a artistry in how they move their bodies- and a third house stellium including Uranus, Mercury, the Sun and Neptune definitely places a critical, positive emphasis on the individual’s voice. Saturn and Pluto in the first gift Spears with the ability to put her nose to the grindstone and make a real career out of this talent.

Mars in the 12th house, especially in a woman’s chart, can represent hidden male enemies- and in a Libra Rising chart, this will often indicate that there is a lot of drug use and hidden nastiness going on between the person with the placement and their spouse. Spears has been infamous for her unfortunate marriages.

As for emotional instability, I am not finding much of that in this chart- although I do find some evidence for *mental* instability, which I will go into shortly. Spears does have a strong Saturnian influence on her Moon in Aquarius, with the trine from Saturn and her South Node in the fourth house in Capricorn- and the fact that the Moon in Aquarius is in fact co-ruled by Saturn. There is a tendency for this person to subdue themselves, and to allow themselves to be subdued by others emotionally. There can be a tendency to put feelings as such to one side and find their expression in that devoted motherhood and those works of art she creates. The Moon in Aquarius can be very hard-working and self-denying, finding peace in doing things in a way that seem morally correct to them. This person would be a very conscientious mother. The fact that her ex-husband has sole guardianship of her children will be the thing that is killing her the most.

The potential for mental instability is in her Uranus at a critical degree in the third house conjunct her Mercury in Sagittarius, which is also conjunct her Sun in Sagittarius. With Neptune in the third house as well, this is definitely someone who can express themselves artistically (as I have already noted)- with great genius. However, this comes at the cost of a high amount of nervous energy that feeds into her fifth house Moon as well. This is actually the chart of someone who is highly intelligent, but can be almost too intelligent and overly wrapped up in their own perspective. Funnily enough, I would state this to be an almost textbook third house for someone with moderate Asperger’s or ADHD. Britney has had some issues with drug use, and I would see this as an attempt to self-medicate her own brilliance and highly intuitive/ creative nervousness.

I see the greatest clue to Britney’s pain in Chiron in Taurus in the eighth house, which draws me back to her Jupiter in Scorpio in the second house. This wound is all about immense, tainted wealth that is not really hers, that has become enmeshed with people close to her. Why is Britney not free? It’s not because she’s crazy. Follow the money.
